Nords Wharf has an official population of fewer than 1000 people; one of them is Australias newest world champion. The sleepy town, situated in the Lake Macquarie region of New South Wales, is possibly one of the last place you would expect to find an extreme sports superstar, but that is a title Rhiannan Iffland has earned after victory in Dubai sealed her maiden Red Bull Cliff Diving world series title. This Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series was a complete dream come true for me, especially coming this year in my debut season as the rookie, Iffland told ESPN.Its been a goal of mine for a few years to be up there on the circuit and just be involved and competing up there next to those athletes was a dream come true at the start of the year. I was super, super excited to be there participating. After the first competition I guess everything just played out very, very well for me and here I am now still in my little bubble thinking that really did just happen. I have to pinch my arm a little bit.Iffland is the first Australian woman to win the Red Bull Cliff Diving world series in its three-year existence, but her record is the most dominant ever from a female competitor. As a rookie, the 24-year-old won five of the seven events on the calendar to finish with 1290 points overall -- 260 clear of her nearest rival and almost double the total of Americas Cesilie Carlton (780) in third place. But Iffland isnt one for records or statistics; she prefers to look forward to her title defence in 2017, fully aware she wont be the unknown commodity that she was this year.I will have a little bit more pressure on my shoulders next year I guess but its not really about winning for me, Iffland said. Its about the passion and the enjoyment of the sport and thats why I believe I did so well this year. However, Iffland isnt immune to the same fears, nerves or apprehensions that anyone else would experience in her choice of occupation. Its definitely frightening being up there and every single time I go up there I am a little bit scared, Iffland told ESPN.That little devil inside is saying jump, jump and then on the other shoulder theres the angel saying no, dont jump but I think with time and as you do more dives it gets a bit easier to control the thoughts and emotions while standing up there as well as the adrenaline.I use the adrenaline to my advantage. Just thinking positive plays a huge part in being able to overcome any fear.I often find myself standing up on the platform and taking a deep breath, opening my eyes and having a look around at where I am, trying to block everything out, forgetting what I am about to do, taking in the scenery and really taking in the moment.Standing up there, its an absolutely amazing feeling; hitting the water and the feeling of accomplishment that I have overcome my fears and achieved something just makes me want to get back up there and do it again.Diving has long been a part of Ifflands life. At just five years old she would join her brother and sister in diving off small rocks near her seaside home.As she has grown taller, so have the height of the platforms; shes long graduated from 2-3 metres and now leaps off ledges almost 30 metres high in the world series. My mum was a little bit nervous for me up there the first time she saw me diving this year, Iffland said.[Her parents] knew what to expect to an extent but I guess thats helped them. They were nervous but theyve been very supportive and they knew what I wanted to achieve and where I wanted to be so they were very good about that. I think they keep their nerves on the inside and not show them too much.I think its close to 70km/h and we slow down within a second. Its like being thrown into a washing machine sometimes. Your body just crumbles if youre not ready for the impact.Ifflands personality is as bubbly as the water she throws herself into and while her diving commitments have put her highly anticipated homecoming on hold she took the opportunity to submit two tongue-in-cheek requests before she returns.Id like a parade, Iffland joked.I would also like to some banana pancakes. Walter Payton Bears Jersey . JOHNS, N. Gale Sayers Womens Jersey .com) - The Pittsburgh Penguins placed forward James Neal on injured reserve Tuesday. FORT WORTH, Texas -- Jamie Dixon didnt even notice that he wasnt introduced before his coaching debut at his alma mater, TCU.He was a little caught up in the fun, weird, strange, different, as he called it in coming back to the school he helped lead as a player to its most recent NCAA Tournament win almost 30 years ago.And before an 82-64 win over the NAIAs St. Thomas on Friday night, Dixon was coming to grips with the fact that he really had left Pittsburgh , where he was head coach the past 13 seasons and on the staff for 17.Seventeen years is a long time, and you only have one way, Dixon said. It just feels so different. Its home, but the arenas so different. I think walking in before was probably the time it really hit me. I think that was it, walking in and walking by the football stadium and walking through here. All that emotion, and no introduction? No welcome home?Maybe thats a tradition here, Dixon said as he chuckled. You guys are laughing. Maybe thats a tradition here. They dont introduce the coach. I dont know. Talk to (athletic director Chris) Del Conte. Hes in charge of that. I think he wanted to introduce it himself.Alex Robinson, a Texas A&M transfer making his debut for the Horned Frogs, led them with 16 points. Karviar Shepherd, one of the holdovers from former coach Trent Johnsons staff, had 14 points and six rebounds.Freshman point guard Jaylen Fisher, the top recruit in Dixons first class, finished with 13 points, seven assists, four steals and a blocked shot to help the Horned Frogs pull away in the second half. This is an exciting year, Shepherd said. New coaches, (Dixon) coming back, alumni, weve got new guys coming in, freshmen. Every years exciting to me, and this years no different. The Celts (0-4) stayed close until the closing minutes of the first half, which endedd with a spinning, buzzer-beating layup from Fisher for a 45-37 lead.ddddddddddddJosh Bearden scored 14 points to lead St. Thomas.DOUBLE THE FUNTCU had six players in double figures. Freshman Desmond Bane and Brandon Parrish, another senior holdover, had 12 apiece. JD Miller had 10 points and seven rebounds, which matched St. Thomas Paris Marquez for the game high.SHOOTING EFFICIENCYShepherds 14 points came on just six shots, with four makes, and he was 5 of 6 on free throws. Robinson was 7 of 11 from the field and made all five attempts inside the 3-point line.LONG-RANGE PLANMore than half of St. Thomas field goal attempts were from 3-point range. The Celts were 9 of 29 from beyond the arc and 23 of 53 overall.BIG PICTURESt. Thomas: It was a decent showing for second-year coach Anthony Medinas team. The Celts were within four (41-37) as late as the 1:16 mark of the first half before fading.TCU: Fishers debut was a positive for Dixon. The 6-foot-2 floor leader from suburban Memphis had committed to UNLV before coach Dave Rice was fired last April. Former Rebels assistant Ryan Miller, who is on Dixons staff, had recruited him. The capper on his strong all-around debut was a block from behind when Bearden was going up for a wide-open layup or dunk.UP NEXT:St. Thomas: The Celts will return to Fort Worth to face Texas Wesleyan on Wednesday. There are some other upper-division challenges coming, including Southern on Thanksgiving Day.TCU: The Horned Fro
